Naval Architect's & Designers of USCG COI & Society Classed Vessels

EMCsq Vessel Wrytha was founded in 1971 by Ed Carlsen. The name of the company is a little heard to pronounce but it symbolizes a great tradition in ship design and building. The word “Wrytha” comes from old Queens English; in American English it’s pronounced “Wright”.

EMCsq Vessel Wrytha follows the old school Naval Architecture ideas of knowing the entire project that is at hand, from its conception, why the project is needed, what the requirements of the project are, and how the project will be accomplished, along with detailed thought to the effeminate life span and the on going requirements of the project.

EMCsq Vessel Wrytha has been called upon to solve a number of client’s diversified and sometimes unusual design needs along with solving problems that are outside the normal Naval Architects realm. For this reason EMCsq had put together an association of other companies that specialize in civil, mechanical, geo-tech, software, electronics engineering and marine sciences for the projects that cross between marine to land based requirements.

EMCsq Vessel Wrytha has been involved with projects ranging from the rebuilding of an Elco PT boat to obtain USCG COI for 49 passengers, which required an entire new multi layer wooden hull and frame work to original specifications, updated with fire retardant materials; to the conversions and upgrades of steel hulled vessels for dinner & passenger cruses to the designs you will see below. “Outside the box is our normal”.

EMCsq Vessel Wrytha has an “in-house” R&D shop to produce the scaled models needed for testing or review. (See Marine Litigation) We pride ourselves in our craftsmanship as well as accuracy. Our models are not just a rendering but in most case an actual scaled to size & weight working unit. This gives us the instant oversight to ascertain if there are any design flaws for the production of the vessel or unit that would be costly. It also reduces the design costing and allows us to bring a project in on time and budget. Most of the pictures below are of our working models! (The only exception is the passenger vessels section)

The pages below are some examples of EMCsq Vessel Wrytha traditional and advanced designs along with other consulting projects.
